Can I insure livestock against permanent disability due to disease?

Permanent total disability of the cattle can arise out of Accident or Disease. You can insure against the same by additional premium for it. Claim payout will depend on insurance provider’s T&C.

What is the Minimum & Maximum Age of the Livsetock for Insurance Coverage?

Usually, most cattle between 3 months to 10 years can be insured. The earlier you insure, the better. Exact age limits may vary across insurers.

Does my policy include livestock transport coverage?

In most cases, your policy includes transit of cattle from the place of purchase to stable located within 80 K.M. Additional premium is charged for this coverage.

How much will I receive in the event of livestock death?

In the event of livestock death. the
market value of the animal at the time of death will be payout to you,
subject to upper limit as the maximum sum insured under your policy.

Can I cancel my livestock insurance policy?

Yes. To cancel, you must give least 7 days written notice to the Insurer. You will be refunded your premium according to the Insurer’s short-period slab.

What changes can I expect after renewing my policy?

The benefits provided by the policy as well as the terms and conditions of the policy such as the premium rate may change upon renewal of your policy. You will be notified about the same at the time of renewal.

When should I notify regarding my cattle death?

Notify your insurer immediately to allow them to examine within 24 hours the cattle death. Submit veterinary certificates, proof of the death, identity and value of the within 14 days of animal death.

Why is the cattle identification tag important?

Submission of the identification tag is a must-have for admission of any liability, in the event of cattle death,loss or illness. If you lose the tag, get retagging done immediately by your insurer.

What is NOT Covered by Livestock Insurance Policy?

  • Intentional injury, neglect, overburdening or misuse of animal
  • Accidents and diseases before policy coming into effect
  • Damage due to war, invasion, civil war, commotion, unrest, rebellion, revolution, etc.
  • Intentional slaughter of the animals, unless lawfully required
  • Loss during transport by air and sea, or transport by and beyond 25 kilometres from the place of stabling by any means other than by foot and beyond 50 kilometres from the place of stabling in case of transit by foot
  • Death due to Plueropneumonia, ionising radiation or contamination by radioactivity from any nuclear source
  • Theft or clandestine sale of the insured animal; Partial disability of any type, whether permanent or temporary
  • Death due to any disease contracted within 15 days from the date of commencement of the policy
